VT on A500b

VT on A500b

#  The lowest temperature reached is -15 C degree.

#  Always keep the VT in a “regulate temp” status, and never stay in the “temp off”.

# For the detail of VT controller, look at the attached manual “TC-84 Temperature Controller”.

# The VT and running NMR are separated.  Change the VT first.  Start running NMR after the temperature reaches the target.

Basic operations

1. User does not need to change the tubing connected to the probe.  The only modification is to adjust the setpoint of the air source temperature.  Set it to 10, 0, -30 or -50 degree by hit “SP1”, “SP2”, “SP3” or “SP4” of “TC-84 Temperature Controller” unit.  Use “Up” and “Down” buttons to adjust it slightly if necessary.

2. Manually insert the sample in the magnet and lock it on.

Load standard shim file:  Hit “Start” -> “Shim” -> ”Read default shims”

Select solvent: Hit “Start” -> “Sample Info” -> Select solvent.

Lock on:  Hit “Start” -> “lock” -> “Find z0”.  If “VT regulation” displayed, hit “Start”  -> “Spin/Temp” -> “Temp off”, then repeat ‘Lock” step.

Display and monitor lock level window: Hit “lock” button on the low left side.

3. Set your target temperature. Go to “Start” -> “Spin/Temp” -> Enter the target temperature (entering number and hit return! The mark should change position) -> hit “Regulate temp”.   It takes 5 minutes to reach 0 C degree and 20 minutes to reach -10 C degree starting from room temperature.

4. After finishing low temperature experiments, you should set the target temperature to room temperature and reset the setpoint temperature back to 10 C degree.   After the probe temperature reaches above 0 degree, put the D2O sample back to the magnet.  Otherwise, the D2O sample may be broken
