NMR Standard Operating Procedure

  1. The program, “VnmrJ” should be logged out.  If it is not, press “logout.”
  2. Sign in with your operator and password.
  3. Click “New Study”
  4. Write your sample name in “Sample name”
  5. If you wish, you can put your email in the “Email” box, and when the sample finishes, the data will be emailed to you.
  6. You may want to also write your sample name and any other important information in the “Comments” box.  What is written here will appear on the top part of the spectrum page with you open up the data.
  7. Choose your solvent.  DMSO, CDCL3, and D2O are listed as common solvents, but the arrow to the right has a comprehensive list of other solvents.
  8. Don’t worry about “Sample volume”, “Mol. Mass”, etc, or anything else on the right (“Sample preparation,” “Status,” etc.)
  9. Choose the tests you would like to run for this sample. These are listed in the top left.
    • The tests you choose will be listed immediately underneath in the section “Study Queue,” under “SampleInfo.”
  10. Place your sample in the spinner and use the gauge to get a proper insertion amount for the sample tube.
  11. Place the spinner in an open space in the sample changer, and note its position
    • If there are no available spaces open, ask CBIC staff to clear out space.  You are responsible for your own sample, please retrieve and dispose of it.
  12. Click on the circle that corresponds to your sample in the sample tray.
  13. If you need the data quickly, click “priority sample” in the bottom left, or if there is no rush or your experiment is time-consuming, click “NightQ,” which puts it in the night queue to be done overnight.
  14. Click “Submit.”
  15. If you have more than one sample to run, do steps 4-13 for each sample, except for step 9.
    • Note: the chosen test queue from the first sample will be performed for all samples, so there is no need to choose them again.  If your samples require different tests, you can right-click on a test and click “delete experiment” to remove it from the queue.
