Monthly Newsletter for July 2014

Dear CBIC Users,

Greetings from the CBIC! If you haven’t done so already, please come check out KCL 3, the new main instrument room for the CBIC. It is in the basement of KCL directly across from the elevator.

CBIC Instrument Moves

As was the case last month, relocation of the CBIC instruments is in progress. As of July 1st, all of the CBIC instruments have been removed from SCL and the demolition stage of the SCL renovation project has already begun.

If you are/were looking for an instrument previously in SCL, in almost all cases it can be found in KCL 3. For example, most of the solution biophysics instruments are located at the north end of the room. If you need more information, please consult the CBIC layout shown here.

Future plans for CRB 100

The remaining 400 MHz NMR spectrometers in CRB 100 will eventually move to KCL 3, near to the other walkup NMR spectrometers already in the room.  We will wait until A400a (with sample changer) is fully operational before taking A400b or A400c offline.

The long term plan for CRB 100 is for it to be primarily an NMR instrument room. The v800 and i600 are installed and fully operational, with no plans for either of them to move in the forseeable future. Eventually v500wb and v600 will be installed on the other side of the room. These NMR spectrometers are best used for more complex and long-term experiments, such as protein NMR, kinetics, solid-state NMR, etc. Most of these instruments will be open to anyone who has received appropriate training.

Sincerely,

CBIC Staff
